Professor Barbara Conway is the Head of Pharmacy at the University of Huddersfield, leading a team of academics focusing on pharmaceutical formulation and delivery. She graduated in Pharmacy from Queens University Belfast and received her PhD in pharmaceutical formulation from Aston University. She has published approximately 90 peer-reviewed papers, along with patents, book chapters and over 180 conference abstracts. To date, she has supervised 40 PhD students and is an experienced examiner at undergraduate, masters and PhD levels. Her major research interests involve development of oral, buccal and transdermal drug delivery systems, the design of modified release systems for drug delivery, including the development of mucoadhesives, fast-dissolving and chewing gum formulations and the enhancement of solubility and dissolution for poorly soluble drugs. Current research programmes focus on strategies to improve skin antisepsis, novel excipients for formulation and drug targeting, particle engineering of drugs and excipients, and nanodissolution.
